Hello love, I'm Carly

I love bright colours and specialise in quirky/alternative wedding cakes. My love for baking started when I was a little girl. I baked with my great nanna, she sent off for me a bero book and I still have that book today.

I baked my first proper celebration cake for my son's christening 13 years ago then I did all mykids and families birthday cakes. In 2022 I decided to leave my stressful full time job and become a full time cake maker. And I love it. I have featured on shoots with alternative wedding fair and quirky weddings. I am also on the alternative wedding fair recommended supplier list. I am based in hull and covering surrounding areas. (Happy to travel around 1 and half hours away) But if you do live further please do enquire and we can assess the distance. 😊

Can we take some time to discuss prices and sizes.

A few weeks ago I had a customer message can I cancel the second cake I ordered and have my deposit back. My heart sunk! This person had just had a cake from me the week before. I asked if all was ok and the customer explained the cake was lovely but very small for the price!

I explained they had ordered a 6 inch 2 layered cake. They explained they weren't ordering based on the size on a ruler but what they had ordered over the last 15 years! And it seemed an awful lot of money for a cake of that size!

It's not in my terms and conditions to refund a deposit because a customer didn't realise what 6 inches was. But I did the right thing and I refunded the deposit as the customer up to then had been really good to work with.

I have attached some examples of some sizes.

And just a reminder that my prices are my prices! There are people cheaper than me there are people more expensive than me.

If you like what I do you will be happy to pay for my work!

I see posts all the time it's just ingredients!

No it isn't it's ingredients, decorating, making topper, printing out edible print! It's time it's electric.

FYI a 10 inch deep cake uses 12 eggs!!!

Everything has gone up!!! Butter, eggs, icing, baking butter, sprinkles, ribbon, cake boards!

It's things not turning up and having to stress, it's things printing out wrong so have to reprint, it's the cricut machine deciding to be a dick that day, it's matching cake boards to a specific cake, it's all the things added in to make it perfect.

Just wanted to make people aware I will never be refunding a deposit for this reason again! so please do make sure you know what your ordering. 🩷

EXCITING NEWS!!!!

IM OFF TO UNI 🥰

I will be starting university in September, doing a counselling degree!! I'm super chuffed! I thought I needed to complete the level 3 first which would have taken a year but was offered the degree.

I love my cakes and crafts and I will still be doing this. I just felt it was time to go for This. After previously been a carer and working with the homeless I have been feeling a little "I'm just a cake maker" and that's fine I just feel I wanna be involved in healing and growing and changing people's lives.

I have done so much work on my self the last fees years and feel I am in such a good place. I am currently waiting on an ADHD assessment too.

I am surrounded by so many wonderful women who do such good things, yoga, holistic healing, women's circles. Etc and I want to do this. I want to help heal and I would love to also create a mixed swimming group at some point for sea swimming and cold dips.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love people and talking and helping. And I just feel I was not meant to spend 8 hours maybe 12 hours a day in a hot kitchen or stood on a market stall.

I just want to thank everyone who has supported me and I look forward to stating my new journey. 🩷🩷

Using up unwanted buttercream on fake cakes for wedding fairs is a great way to save food waste.

I save all little bits of buttercream whatever the colour (this can be coloured black) and it's all brought together and used.

I hate food waste and this is a great way to prevent this. Also better than using fake buttercream as that can be a different texture.

It gets wrapped up and popped in the freezer then I cover fake cakes with it as I would a normal cake. This is not eaten purely for sight.

It feels crazy to think it's been 3 years already!

Feels 5 minutes ago I was giving up my full time job working with the homeless to do this. And it's one of the best things I have ever done.

I have learnt so much along the way, I have learnt what's right for others is not right for me. I have learnt what I want and that is not to be working every hour of the week. What's the point in being self employed if you have no time for yourself. This has taken lots of work on my self when I first started I said yes to everything! And every stall but I don't need to. The reason I went self employed was to be more present with my family.

Yes there are weeks where I am in the kitchen till late. But that's mainly cause I went swimming and looked after my wellbeing first.

I have learnt so much from @sunsetontheearth about looking after me! And if I hadn't been self employed would prob never have met you and lots of other amazing people I have met along the way.

My heart is so full! exciting things are coming lots of exciting changes. My crafts @the_east_yorkshire_mermaid are doing well although been pushed to the back due to busy making cakes.

A massive thank you to @danr27 for all the unpaid work and believing in me always! Couldn't have done it without you.
